  2. Hi everyone. I am Angel Park. I am a music therapist at Bellevue Hospital, located in New York City. I work in various settings with children and adolescents, such as inpatient pediatric medicine, adolescent mothers and children, prenatal adolescents, comprehensive care clinic, child psychiatry, and early learning. Hi, I am Kristin Veteto. I am a music therapist and business owner for Giving Song, LLC in Columbia, MO. I have served a variety of populations in my clinical experience but currently work mostly with children and adults with developmental disabilities, emotional disturbances, and TBI. Pregnancy, labor, and mothering has always fascinated me and this course of study is a dream come true. I am elated to read the material and join in the conversation with all of you and most importantly learn from each of you. Outside of music therapy I like to run and play board games with my husband and family. I look forward to working along side each of you and meeting you all in Kansas City in November.

  4. Good (rainy) Saturday!! I'm Brenda Gross from Cincinnati, OH. I've been a MT-BC for 15 years. I started out as the MT for an activities dept. in a nursing home. I was there for 8 1/2 years until the birth of my 2nd son. I'm currently mainly a SAHM, but work a few hours weekly in a county based day programming facility for adults with developmental disabilities. I work with another MT and our performance group as well as doing some 1:1 sessions.
I'm very excited to finally be taking this course! I witnessed the birth of my godson in 2000. My friend had a doula and that got me interested in some day persuing training as a doula. In 2001, while pregnant with my 1st son, I attended a CMTE about music in pregnancy and labor taught by Mary. I loved learning about combining my interest in becoming a doula with my love for MT! But with my husband and I starting a family, I didn't feel it was the right timing. (I also witnessed the birth of another friend's baby in 2004 and wished I had all my training then.) Fast forward 15 years - my sons are now 13 and 8 and I'm ready to start turning those dreams into reality!
Outside of MT, I enjoy genealogy research, cake decorating (mostly for my boys' birthdays although people keep telling me I should do it for a living!), making filled cupcakes (I believe an unfilled cupcake is a lonely cupcake!), reading and bowling.
I love babies. I love MT. I look forward to learning how to utilize the power of music to help mothers bring their new additions into the world. As individuals, we all have different life experiences. As music therapists, we have different learning experiences as well as treatment styles. I think these various experiences is what will make this opportunity exciting as we learn with and from one another.
I look forward to this learning journey with you and to meeting you all in KC!

  5. Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa Courter. I just recently passed the CBMT exam and am hoping to start a private practice here in the Central New York area. I have a new baby (almost 3 months old!) and have been busy learning how to be a mom and what that means for my emotional, spiritual, and physical self. I am passionate about empowering women during their labor and delivery experience and am working towards Doula certification through DONA.

I have a background in music education and after teaching for a year decided that education just wasn't the right place for me. While working towards my music therapy degree at SUNY New Paltz I had two amazing internship placements: one working with people recovering from TBI and the other at a long term care facility for children with disorders of consciousness and other medical conditions that made it difficult for them to live at home. I love using music therapy in a medical setting and find that it often provides a space for people to open up and share so many parts of themselves.

I am so excited to be able to attend the national conference this year, where I am fortunate to be part of the performance of Grace Street, an arts based research project by Dr. Diane Austin. Outside of music therapy, I love to sing with other people, get lost in a good book, and push myself mentally and physically through working out. I can't wait to learn with all of you and meet you in November!

  6. Hello everyone, greetings from the other side of the world! I am Vivian Lok from Macau SAR, China. I came back to Macau after I passed my MT-BC in 2013. I started the first medical music therapy program in town at a private general hospital last year (Horray!), was also able to “break into” their NICU (double Horray!!) and has been working with medical patients with various diagnoses since then. I love working at medical settings, neonatal and pediatrics are my specialties (LOVE to work with kids and infants). I had my NICU training last year in Florida, where I met Dr. DiCamillo. She jumped in and told us about sound birthing while some of us were having a discussion on the possible pain, fear and anxiety that a mother needs to go through during labor; and I was amazed by it. I am really excited to take this course as I have the biggest fear on giving birth too, especially the painful part. Last year, a friend of mine was all nervous and worried a couple days before her due date and asked if I could provide her with my service, I just wished I had my training already! I would like to help out mothers who have the same fear and probably the future me as well.
Outside of music therapy, I love to cook. Just like Brenda Gross from Cincinnati, my friends also keep telling me I should do it for a living, (high-five? Haha). I also love to travel. I love to learn about different cultures of different places. This world is too big and has too many things to see and to experience on your own rather than just reading from a book. Just like a saying in Chinese “You can know more by travelling thousands of miles than by reading thousands of books”. Can’t wait to see all of you in KC next month!

  7. Hi! I'm Anna Estabrook, and I live in Peoria, Illinois. I've been pioneering a private practice here for a little over a year after getting married in 2013, right after passing the board certification. I work as a developmental therapist in the Early Intervention system, and have contracts in various places in town: a daycare, a private school, and 1:1 sessions. I also work for my local Music Together as a teacher, which I enjoy. I'm originally from Finland and love learning about different cultures.
I've tried twice unsuccessfully in the last year to attend one of the Sound Birthing trainings in order to provide support to parents through the birthing process. As my husband and I are expecting our first baby, I'm making plans to shift the amount and type of work I continue after the baby's born. Namely, I'm hoping that it will work well with my more full mama schedule to take a few MT assisted childbirth clients rather than having the more full MT schedule I currently experience. We'll see! I'm looking forward to growing as a professional, learning to be a mom, and taking in all I can from this course.

  9. Hi Everyone,
Angel, I think it is fascinating that you have had the experience of working with adolescent and young mothers. I would love to pick your brain about this population.
Brenda, I also love babies and MT! So happy to be working alongside you this fall.
Alyssa, I think it is fascinating that you are working through your doula training. I have heard that a doula is an essential support member!
Vivian, I also like to travel and cook! So nice to meet you!
Anna, Congratulations on your first baby! What an exciting time for you!
Glad to meet each of you and learn from your experiences!

  11. My name is Terri Smith-Morse. I have been and MT-BC for about 22 years. I live and work in Southern California. I work at a state facility for people with intellectual disabiles and have been at the same facility since my internship. I am currently an administrator and am closer to
I the end of my career than the start. I met Dr. DiCamillo 22 years ago and we have bee friends since. I was "there" when Mary was researching the topic of music therapy assisted childbirth and when she developed the program;however I did not complete the course until now. As my career in state service winds down I am looking forward to exploring other opportunities to share the power of music in meaningful ways. What could be more meaningful than giving birth to a child?

  12. Hello! My name is Mary Barfield and I have been an MT-BC since 2003. I live and work in St. Louis, MO, in special education in public schools. I signed up to take this training in February 2014, but was ill and could not attend (ironically, I found out two weeks later I was pregnant). And after my own difficult birth experience with a stillbirth, I'm even more interested in how this training could be helpful to women and families.

  13. Hello all! I am Erin McAlpin from Kansas City, MO. I have been an MT-BC for about 6 years. Right now I am home with my 2 year old daughter and work part time as a piano teacher. If I had not become a music therapist I think my next career option would have been a midwife, so this class is very exciting to me. I have watched about every movie or TV show about birth that I can get my hands on. Ha! My husband and I adopted our daughter from birth and were both able to be in the delivery room when she was born. It. was. amazing. On the side, I am very interested in how this class could pertain to adoptive families, who although are not experiencing delivery, are most definitely "laboring" for the new baby or child who will be entering their family. My husband and I are also completing our home study for a second adoption. So in non-adoption terms, we are "expecting". Growing a baby in your heart is a very unique road to parenthood and not very many resources or support available. I am so excited to be apart of this class and look forward to chatting and meeting with you all very soon.

  14. Hello! I am Celeste Hobbs from Arnold, MO (near St. Louis, MO). I have been an MT-BC for 19 years, but took several years off here and there to stay home with my children who are now 21 and 18...yes empty nest has set in. I currently am self-employed, working as a contractor with Midwest Music Therapy Services, working primarily with early childhood special education. I also do a little behavior therapy on the side especially for those summer months when my caseload is not as full. I got interested with MTACB a few years back with a fellow therapist had a Creative Arts Birthing training class at her house, which Mary taught. I contract with that therapists company to teach CAB classes and after this training will do MTACB as well. I did a doula training earlier this year, to help increase my education and understanding of labor. In my free time (lol) I love to read, watch movies and TV, sing with the St. Louis Chamber Chorus, and perform in community theater. I know I have gotten a late start with this class, but look forward to catching up and getting to know you all.

  16. Hi! I am Anna Baird-Galloway, and currently live in Chicago, IL, but am from Alabama. We have been in Chicago for about 4 years now, after moving here for my internship. My professional life has all been in this city, which I think has been an incredible experience and given me multiple opportunities to work with a variety of populations and cultures. Currently I work in an adult day center, contract in hospice, and hopefully will be starting a new job at a children's hospital. The new job would be primarily in oncology and the NICU (I was NICU certified in 2012). They will be opening a brand new labor and delivery unit, so I am hoping to jump in and offer MTACB as well, if I can pitch it well. ;)

My husband and I do not have any children yet, but I am hoping to learn more about that whole process through this course as well. I have several friends and family who have had traumatic birthing experiences, which is a reason we are a bit hesitant to have our own family, but I am hoping to learn more so that I can help others have a more peaceful and comfortable birth experience.

In my spare time we spend a lot of time with our greyhound, Hank, who just retired from racing in November. We adopted him in January, so we are loving our new family member! I also do a lot of baking, running (hoping to do my first marathon next year), and love college football (Roll Tide!).

Looking forward to learning more through this course!

  17. Hi All, I am Akiyla Imani Mc Queen. I am currently a student at FSU in the masters Music Therapy Equivalency program. I am in the internship portion of my graduate career, following the completion of my internship on June 15th, I will take my boards then begin my Thesis journey; since I have already completed all of my required graduate courses.

I am a mother of two amazing children, a 4 year old daughter and 9 month old son. Both of my children were born in the comfort of my home. I also gave birth to a son before my eldest daughter whom passed away shortly after birth. The birth of my first son is what furthered my journey into womb health, spiritual elevation and connecting with other natural mamas like myself. The changes that took places within me after having my children inspired me to become a doula, and now I have my own business with my best friend, called Lotus Wombs: A Holistic Doula Service for Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum. When time presents itself, please take the time to check out our webpage at WWW.LotusWombs.com. I absolutely love what we do, and incorporating therapeutic music in childbirth, as music is my first and most dearest passion, is exciting and truly amazing. I truly look forward to all there is to learn from this course, as well as, ready to bring about even more awareness to music therapy in the birthing environment. My journey as a music therapy student has changed my life forever and there isn't a profession Id rather do, and I am so pleased to fuse both my knowledge as a doula with my clinical skills as a music therapist. It is with great pleasure to meet you all, and to be apart of this wonderful journey with you!

When I worked with master degree many years ago, I'm interested in Music Therapy Assisted Childbirth. Read related literatures, attended expectant mothers' classroom given by obstetric department learned knowledge of birthing and deliver.
We know there are benefits for both mother and baby by natural laber, but Chinese have high rate of Caesarean. As a music therapist I hope letting more people know and having satisfying experience through music assisted childbirth.

  21. Hello! I am Audrey Zybura and I am a relatively new music therapist in the professional world. I completed my internship just this past March at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX. I am originally from New York and completed my music therapy degree at Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music in Berea, OH. I was very lucky to secure a full-time job in April and became an official MT-BC in May. I now work in Willoughby, Ohio at a non-profit community arts center providing music therapy on-site to people of many ages with many different abilities. Through this facility I am also contracted to other sites, one of them including the county hospital.

Since beginning my music therapy and psychology studies, I have always been extremely interested in the way music therapy can benefit bonding and development for mothers and babies. My internship reinforced these interests as I did a fair amount of work in the NICU and also initiated a program at the hospital in which I helped mothers with high-risk pregnancies write songs over their baby's recorded heartbeat to increase bonding and their own confidence/calmness as they awaited their baby's arrival. This endeavor certainly heightened my interest in pursuing music therapy as it relates to the prenatal/perinatal experience.

My hopes in taking this class are mostly to deepen my knowledge and down the road potentially expand my services either through reaching out to expecting mothers in the community or even spreading music therapy to the labor and delivery floor of the county hospital.

  22. HI Audrey! Wow that is great that you have already worked with expecting moms and have created bonding songs. I too love working in the NICU but my current practice focuses on serving families during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the immediate post partum periods. The majority of my work is in MTACB and Birth Music Consultation. I also offer Creative Arts Birthing prenatal sessions for Birth Preparation.

  23. Hi! I'm Jessica Carlin. I was born and raised in Fairfax Virginia, a suburb of the Metro/Washington DC area. I attended college in Winchester VA where I met my then roommate, now business partner Josie Channell (she is also taking this course). I have now returned to Fairfax where Josie and I own our own music therapy practice. I am still relatively new to the professional world of music therapy. I graduated and passed my exam about a year and a half ago. Since then we have been working to expand our practice. We both really enjoyed our hospital internship and love babies so when we came across this training we were really excited! We have looked into NICU certifications and the different midwife certifications, but this course seemed to address exactly what we wanted to delve into first when it comes to this specialization. I am looking forward to learning how music can be impactful during all aspects of pregnancy and birth, not just one aspect alone. Currently I work mainly with children with developmental disabilities, and preschoolers. I am excited to learn more about using music with the youngest of populations. I am also looking forward learning from the collaborative nature of the course, through the experience and opinions shared by other professionals.

  24. Hi Jessica: So glad you joined this course! My husbands parents lived in Vienna, VA for many years so I have visited there often. It's so great that you have an interest in this area of clinical practice. This course focuses on labor and birth. I also teach a Prenatal Music Bonding course, a Creative Arts Birthing Birth Preparation course, a Birth Music Consultation course and a Post Partum Music
Therapy Course. Next fall I will also offer an Advanced MTACB course. It is so great to focus deeply on each area at a tie because there are different needs at the various pre and peri natal stages. :) MD

  25. Hello! My name is Josephine (Josie) Channell. I live in Alexandria, VA exactly 23 minutes from the Washington Monument! My husband and I like to head into DC in the evenings sometimes to just walk around and enjoy the monuments. I attended college at Shenandoah University where I studied music therapy and met my business partner, Jessica. About 2 years ago, we started a business called Helping Harmony Music Therapy. We currently serve children and adolescents with developmental disabilities or mental illness, but I have always wanted to work with the maternity ward of the hospital.

I have always appreciated listening when friends and family members would share their personal birth stories, and I always found it fascinating to hear things that they believed made their birth experience more fulfilling and sometimes, sadly, more stressful. My mother had 4 children and has always sang the praises of the Lamaze program, so when I began my studies in music therapy, I of course wondered if there were some way to create a program to support mothers using music. I began researching and I came upon many of the Music Therapy Assisted Childbirth articles, which led me to Sound Birthing, and I decided that I must take the training once I was certified! I am excited for this training and cannot wait to learn how to utilize music therapy in a way to support women through the whole birthing process and help them to achieve the least stressful experience as possible!

  26. Hello! My name is Karla Holsclaw. I live in Cross Lanes, WV right outside of the Charleston WV. I have two wonderful kids Jeff, 17 and Caroline, 14 and I am married to Steven Holsclaw. I attended Tennessee Tech University for my BS in Music Therapy. Currently, I am self-employed and contract with several agencies throughout the valley. I see a wide variety of clients from individuals with autism to adults with intellectual disabilities. I love this career and working with not only the individual but the families.

When Dr. Register sent us this email about Sound Birthing, my ears immediately perked up. Both of my birth experiences were so different from each other as well as the care I was given from different doctors and hospitals. Back 17 years ago, I had my playlist and great intentions and then you enter the hospital. Haha. I can not wait to learn and train how to support women before, during and after child birth.

Several of our young therapist at the office are pregnant and when I mentioned I would be taking this class there ears perked up as well. I am looking forward to sharing this adventure with each of you. Thanks again for the training opportunity.

  28. Hi all! My name is Corinne and will be assisting with this class as part of my mentorship program to become a SBM Trainer!

I took my first MTACB class when I was pregnant in 2015- I figured, even if I never used the skills I learned again, I at least knew how to use music effectively for my own L&D, and got some CMTEs in the process. ;-)

Unfortunately, our daughter passed away as a result of undetected birth defects, but I continue to find connection to my daughter through the music in these programs. I sing her womb song often, and I find happy memories of my pregnancy in the music I listened to while I carried and labored with her.

Since completing my first training, I have also completed the Birth Music Consultation course, which has brought great variety to my private practice. I have been able to work with a mom who had significant birth trauma, as well as several other moms and doulas in my community. I have set up parternship with a local birth center, and overall it has added a really interesting component to my private practice.

  34. Hello from down under everybody!

I'm playing catch up too. I'm from Brisbane, Australia and have been a registered music therapist for two years. I currently work with an early intervention program called 'Sing and Grow' that focuses on enhancing the attachment relationship between parents and babies/children aged 0-3. I'm currently doing a community partnership working with. Young parents and after giving birth to my fist Bub in march last year, positive birthing experiences is something I'm very passionate about and hoping to introduce this work into the pre-natal program with the young parents, as well as bring it into my own private practice (which I'm hoping to begin in the near future). I had a wonderful intervention and drug free birth in a birth centre and although it wasn't music therapy assisted, affirmations, music I had previously associated with relaxation and the use of voice, were definitely the difference (I believe) between intervention and none. I think this is also an area in Australia with very few music therapists working in it and one that is needed!

As an RMT, I've also worked in aged care, mental health, a women's prison and a high school for asylum seekers and refugees. Before MT, I worked as a professional singer and performer and lived and travelled a lot all over the world. I love yoga, dance, cooking, camping, travel and hanging out with my scrumptious 1 yr old, Scarlett. I so t be attending the experiential component of the course, but very excited to get started and be learning again 😊

  37. Hi everyone! I'm Laura Olson and I appear to be the start of the 2017 Atlanta cohort!

I live and practice in Minneapolis, MN. Currently I run a private practice called City of Lakes Music Therapy and serve mostly adults with disabilities and a few hospice patients.

I recently completed Mary's Prenatal Music Bonding CMTE and LOVED it! I feel so energized by the idea of working with mamas and babies (and their partners). While my own birth didn't go exactly the way I wanted, I felt empowered by the knowledge and strength I drew from learning about birth. I hope to pass on this knowledge and joy to other mamas.

    2. Hi Laura! Do you have a connection to Atlanta?

I have never been to MN, but there was a time when I wondered my husband (then fiancee) was in an interview process with Finale, the music notation software company, and if he had been chosen, they would have required him to relocate.

    3. So glad to have you back for another course Laura. Your knowledge and experience will be a great help to us as we work through the Music Therapy Assisted Childbirth model of care. :) MD

    4. Thanks, Mary! I'm glad to be back!

Caroline, I have no connection to Atlanta! I really wanted to take this course and it's very hard to fly to Southern California, and very easy to fly to Atlanta from Minneapolis. So here I am!

  38. Hello everyone! I'm Jill Harer and I live in Martinsburg WV. I have been certified since December 2016 and established Rhythmically Connected Music Therapy Services as an independent contractor in April of 2017.

I'm currently not working as a Music Therapist, but as a fitness instructor, and I've recently received my first lead on a contract with a mental health integrative health service.

I'm looking forward learning new techniques and methods so I can bring MT into an area where there really isn't much, and to a population where MT isn't being used.

I don't have any kids...but I became interested in MTACB when I realized there were no music therapist in my area working with this population.

    1. HI Jill that is great! Welcome! I did a training at WVU last spring so there are a few clinicians trained in your state now. Not sure how close you are to there. But I am hoping to come back and do more in person trainings at WVU on other pre and peri natal topics.

  39. Hi there,

I'm Caroline Beson (listed as Caroline Beckman on Mary's email) and I live in Fayetteville, GA.

I've been board certified since 2014, and I work at a private school for students with disabilities age 2-22.

I have a Bachelors degree in Bassoon Performance and have a small private bassoon studio and perform very casually in the Southern Crescent area of Atlanta with the Peachtree Chamber Players, a Woodwind Quintet+Piano group.

Outside of music, I enjoy yoga, do-it-yourself projects, knitting, and shopping at thrift and consignment stores. I don't have any children, but I have always found birth to be an exciting topic.

Prior to being board certified, I worked at a preschool and provided music experiences for everyone from the 5 year olds right on down to the youngest infants. Infants are remarkable learners! I would like to provide more music experiences for younger clients, but more importantly, I'd like to be able to provide music, education, and support to parents.

I've always wanted to take this course, so I am very excited to get started.

  40. Hello all!

I'm Kimber McNaughton; I live in Sandy Springs, GA.

I became certified in 2014. Originally from Illinois, I went to Elmhurst College and received my Bachelor's Degree in Music (general) and Psychology. I then went on to Illinois State to receive my Master's degree in Music Therapy.

For the last 3 years, I was working in the public school system, but this Spring I ventured back into the hospice realm for the first time since internship.

I do not currently have children, but have been drawn to the idea of working within both sides of life.

I'm very excited to see what this course brings!

    1. HI Kimber that's awesome! Welcome! Many MT's specialize in both sides of life. :)

    2. Cool! I also did hospice work in internship and miss it. two years ago, I attended the Grief and Loss Institute with Russell Hilliard. It's great to have this background, as we will all be unified in feeling grief of some time during our life. Birth and death really do have some interesting parallels that few people seem to think about.

    3. Hey Kimber! I'm also from Illinois, pretty close to Elmhurst! I wonder if we know any people in common haha

  41. Hello!

My name is Dorothy Rhodes, and I live in Decatur, GA. I have been a music therapist since 2007. I have an MA in Music Therapy from New York University, and have done postgraduate training in Vocal Psychotherapy and Analytic Music Therapy.

Most of my work experience has been with adults in mental health settings. However, since having a son 20 months ago, I have been drawn towards working with babies, children, and families. I think there is so much potential for the use music therapy in labor and birth, and I am excited to learn about Dr. DiCamillo's method!

In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, hiking, and hanging out with my husband and son.

I look forward to working through the online material with everyone, and meeting in person in September!

  43. Hello! My name is Shanna and I am a licensed and Board-Certified Music Therapist working at The George Center in Roswell, GA.

I have been practicing a little over 5 years now. I graduated from Ohio University in 2011, and did my internship a Florida State Hospital. I then worked for four years in a private behavioral health hospital before coming to Atlanta.

In my free time I enjoy running, hiking, paddle boarding, exploring, drawing, and tending to my sunflower garden.

I am interested in taking the class for both future opportunities in the metro Atlanta area, as well as for my own experiences in birth (hopefully) one day!

Can't wait to meet you all in September!

  44. Hi Everyone!
My name is Laura and I am a MT-BC in Florida, currently working at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care of Broward County. I have been a certified music therapist for almost 2 years now!

I interned at Chris Everett Children's Hospital at Broward General Fall-Winter of 2014-2015 and then contracted and worked part time with different private practices; working with children of all ages and developmental levels.

Outside of work I love to travel (the wanderlust is real), work out, relax with a good tv show or book, and spend time with my core group of people.

I do not have my own children, but I have always loved working with children, and have been extremely fascinated with music therapy assisted childbirth since I heard about it in school.

I look forward to meeting everyone in September!!

  45. Hello All! I apologize for being late to the party, but I am happy to be here!

My name is Hannah Rhinehart and I am a board-certified music therapist and neurologic music therapist working at The George Center for Music Therapy in Roswell, Ga. I am in my second year of practicing and could not be more in love with this profession. The largest population I work with is children and adults with developmental disabilities, followed by memory care, traumatic brain injury, and other early interventions.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, being outside and in nature, and finding crafty ways to create new things or express myself.

Looking forward to this training and meeting you all!

  46. Hello everyone! I am also late to the party, but super excited to finally be taking this course and hosting the experiential at The George Center! My name is Jamie George and I am the owner and director of The George Center for Music Therapy. I have a BFA in musical theater for Western Michigan University and I received my music therapy equivalency and Master's of Music from the University of Georgia. I worked for a few years in private practice and for the Fulton County School System before I started The George Center in 2010. I started The George Center because I wanted to provide opportunities for music therapists to make a live-able wage as part of a true team based approach. I am passionate about advocating for recognition and reimbursement in our field. I am a certified Neurologic Music Therapist and NICU Music Therapist. I currently serve on several state, regional, and national music therapy association boards including reimbursement, government relations, and ethics. I am also on our state task force which successfully attained licensure in Georgia in 2012. I was nominated to the advisory board for the Georgia Secretary of State and strive to represent our profession at the state level. I am proud to have been a contributing author on the new CBMT/AMTA Scope of Practice.

The birth of my first child in 2014 was the impetus for my interest in taking this course. I had an extremely traumatic birth and subsequent recovery. While my physical recovery was textbook, my emotional recovery took more than a year. I often wonder if the trauma and anger that I carried with me would have been different if music therapy had been available to me during my time in the hospital. I feel that I have been called to provide music therapy to women and families that may face the same experience as we did during childbirth.

Thanks to Mary for agreeing to offer this experiential course in Atlanta and I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks.

  47. Hi! I'm very late to this train but I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one!

My name is Jessica Jarrett and I am a recent music therapy graduate from the University of Georgia! I just got board certified in June and I'm excited to be taking this course. I am also currently in graduate school at the University of Georgia studying Community Counseling (hence my lateness...grad school is hard!)

I am interested in pursuing a career working with adults in inpatient or community psychiatric facilities or those with substance abuse problems. However, I'm interested in taking this course to get a more well-rounded education in more aspects of music therapy. I don't have any kids of my own (and don't plan on it for quite a while!) but I was really intrigued when I saw that this course was being offered!

Excited to see you all and get started!
